"Testing a Pair at Whitepot"

Long Island Rail Road & Kawasaki Heavy Industry's M9 Test Train runs down the long straightaway at Rego Park while making one of several back and forth trips within the "City Zone" area of the Main Line. Just behind the train is the now-gone Whitepot Junction which was where the Rockaway Beach Branch split off from the Mainline. The test train consists of 3 pairs (6 cars) with 2 of the pairs sitting out while one of the newest pairs is put through several "burn in" tests between Harold Interlocking in Woodside and Jay Interlocking in Jamaica. This is one of the few instances where one can see a two car electric Long Island Rail Road train operating outside yard territory.
