"CTrail at Hartford Rubber Works"

Southbound CTrail train 4407 passes the old Hartford Rubber Works plant on Amtrak's MRS Line in Hartford, Connecticut. Founded by John Gray in 1881, Hartford Rubber Works was a large producer of many rubber products such as solid tires for bicycles, automobiles and more. They were at one point one of the largest manufacturers of rubber goods in the country. In 1899 the company was absorbed into Pope Manufacturing and then in 1905 was purchased by the U.S. Rubber Company who would later close the Hartford plant in 1929 and move all operations to Detroit. The building now serves as business space and apartment-style housing.
